Smartphones with detachable batteries
TCL Ion X

Remember when smartphones with removable batteries were the in thing? Remember how you had to take out the battery to put in your SIM card and hard restart the device? Good times. But as technology got more advanced, in-built batteries paved the way for slimmer devices and here we are.

Now, however, the European Union is fighting to bring back smartphones with removable batteries. According to the union, this will help improve the repairability and other possibilities. The European Union will expect smartphone makers in their region to comply with this requirement if passed into law.

A few days ago, TCL launched its removable battery compliant lon X smartphone. Available only in the United States, the TCL Ion X is a budget device with a classic design.

TCL Ion X specifications and price

This device comes with a budget MediaTek processor and up to 3GB worth of RAM capacity. The screen size on this device is 6 inches, and it is a high-definition (HD) panel. Certainly, the most surprising specification of this device is its 3000mAh detachable battery.

Being a budget device, there is little to expect from this device’s camera system. But, TCL slaps on a single rear camera setup that houses a 13MP main camera. On the front, buyers get a 5MP selfie camera and thick screen bezels. This device retails at a starting price of $119 and is currently available for sale in the United States via local carriers.

The Nokia C3 which has a removable battery

Other smartphone makers like Nokia have also recently rolled out smartphones with removable batteries. Does this mark the return of removable batteries on smartphones? If your favourite brand launches a new smartphone with a removable battery, would you buy it?
